Midwives Give Everyday

As a midwife, “giving Tuesday” means spending the day (Tuesday, in this case) at a birth instead of the appointments I had previously planned- maybe missing a parent-teacher conference at my child’s school. “Giving Tuesday” means the year my wedding anniversary fell on a Tuesday but I didn’t make dinner plans because I still had one client that was 41 weeks and ready to pop. “Giving Tuesday” happens when I’m at a birth all night Monday night, and I know that nothing is going to be accomplished on Tuesday because I’m going to be sleeping or incoherent from lack of sleep.

How many Tuesdays have I given? How many Tuesdays has the collective body of midwives in Georgia given? I don’t know, because when you are called to do the work, you simply do it no matter what day of the week it is. The work gives you life, the most fulfilling job possible.

It’s time to have a Giving Tuesday for midwives in Georgia.

We are working tirelessly to fight for Georgia families’ rights to birth safely and on their own terms. We are protecting sacred moments like the one pictured above. We need funds to pay for educational resources, lobbying at the Georgia State Capitol, and expenses related to advocating for Georgia families and Certified Professional Midwives. Here’s how you can give this Giving Tuesday:
